Creamed Leeks
Ingredients
8 large leeks, cleaned
1 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, divided
2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
salt and pepper to taste
With a more delicate and sweeter flavor than onions, leeks add a subtle touch to recipes without overpowering the other flavors that are present.
Directions
- Cut cleaned leeks into bite sized pieces.
- In large skillet, cover and simmer in a small amount of water until tender (30 min).
- Rinse with cold water; then drain.
- Set aside in serving dish, keep warm.
- Melt 2 Tbsp of butter in a skillet over low heat. Add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until sauce is thick and bubbly.
- Stir in remaining butter and season to taste.
- Pour the sauce over prepared leeks and serve immediately.
